Officially known as the Purnululu National Park but more commonly known as the Bungle Bungle National Park or just Bungle Bungles this is a destination that attracts visitors from all over the globe. Located in Western Australia the Bungle Bungle National Park is located near Kununurra. The park is accessed by the Spring Creek Track off the Great Northern Highway and the best time to visit is during the dry season which is usually from April to December.
The Bungle Bungle National Park has been listed as a World Heritage Site, boasts an impressive range with massive orange and black stripped sandstone domes. The beehive shaped domes are sedimentary formations and some of the domes are approximately 578 metres above sea level. It's a landmark you have to see for yourself to really appreciate the grandeur of this fascinating national park.
Sunrise and sunset is a great time to view the spectacular colourful orange and black stripped domes and a scenic flight is the best way to experience these incredible beehive shaped domes. There are a number of popular hikes such as the Echidna Chasm Trail and the Beehive Trail, which starts at the Piccaninny Creek car park. The Beehive Trail is a four kilometre circular track that will take you to the Cathedral Gorge. If you only have time for one hike then this would be the best one to choose.
If you aren't so fortunate as to have your own four wheel drive vehicle there are a number of tours that visit the Bungle Bungle National Park.
There are short tours and scenic flights that depart from Kununurra and also a few extended tours that depart from Broome and Darwin.
If you are planning a trip to Western Australia then a visit to the Bungle Bungles is a must. It is a destination that should be on everybody's bucket list!
